Learn How To Use Grok AI To Summarize A Webpage Now!

In this Grok AI Tutorial, we’re going to explore a faster and more reliable way of achieving this using generative AI-powered artificial intelligence (AI) tools to summarize social media and analyze comment sentiment.

In the past, if we came across a post, such as the one on the right, on Reddit or elsewhere, which contained a large number of user replies, we’d have to read the author’s opinion piece and then skim through the community feedback and hope we could get a quick understanding regarding what the general sentiment was of those responding.

This is problematic in that reviewing this much online content visually takes time, it’s error-prone, and it may miss important discussion insights.

Let’s take a closer look at how we can simplify this effort using Grok, in this case, however the prompt we’ll introduce below should produce similar results when used in competing AI chatbot implementations.

Learn how to use Grok AI to analyze a URL

In this section we’ll walk through an example prompt used to analyze a URL to a publicly accessible video post on Reddit.

Tools

In this instructional we’ll be using the Grok artificial intelligence feature available on the X social media platform to inspect the Reddit URL.

X (Twitter) Grok UI with a red arrow pointing to the Grok AI icon on the left side of the page and a blue arrow pointing to the "Ask anything" text area where we can enter our prompt.

Note that in the above image the:

  • Red pointer points to the Grok AI icon.
  • Blue pointer points to the Grok AI “Ask anything” text area where we can enter our prompt.

Supplies

We need a URL to a publicly available webpage and in this example we’ll rely on the video post entitled “Do NOT buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti” on Reddit.

This article has 235 comments so it’s long enough that we’d likely benefit from inspecting the content using a tool such as Grok AI, in this case, to answer specific questions about what’s in this document.

Step One: Develop a prompt.

In the first step we need to develop a prompt to extract the information we need from the webpage.

The initial prompt contains six questions which we’d like to have answered and we’ll point out a few characteristics of this prompt which may interest the reader:

  • For question #1, the prompt requests the top five reasons why one should NOT buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti — these are not ordered though and we could either change this prompt or ask a follow-up question.
  • For question #3, we’re requesting that Grok AI provide a score pertaining to the consistency of the complaints. Requesting a score is a very valuable tool we can use to get an overview of information and can also be helpful when asking follow-up questions (if we know something has been scored a five, for example, we can ask what a six would look like).
  • The prompt has a note to “Be concise” — AI tools, including Grok, can produce a significant amount of output and we’re looking to move quickly here so we tell the tool to limit the result.

We also need to include the URL to the publicly accessible webpage in the prompt as well.

We need to keep in mind that the information Grok AI returns may need to be scrutinized however this prompt should help to cut this time down significantly.

Step Two: Execute the prompt.

The image on the right contains a:
  • Red pointer which points to the prompt we covered in the first step.
  • Blue pointer which points to the “Grok something” button, which is used to execute the prompt.
Once we’ve executed the prompt we can then inspect the results and ask follow-up questions, if necessary.
The red pointer points to the prompt that the user has entered and the blue arrow points to the "Grok something" button, which is used to run the prompt.
Grok The Following Prompt with pointers to the prompt and the "Grok something" button.

Step Three: Review the results.

We need to review the results and while doing this keep in mind that we’re reading an aggregation of opinions fed through a sophisticated algorithm so not everything listed here may be accurate.

I’ve included the response Grok produced given the prompt mentioned in step one for this article here.

Note that the final note includes some important information underlined in red.

Grok xAI example response to question one: "What are the top five reasons one should NOT buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti ?" including five reasons.
Grok response to question one: "What are the top five reasons one should NOT buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti ?".
Grok response to question two: "Are there any reasons one should buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti ?" including three justifications for purchasing this product.
Grok xAI response to question two: "Are there any reasons one should buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti ?".
Question three asks "Are the complaints consistent? Score this from zero (completely inconsistent) to ten (completely consistent) and provide a brief explanation why." and the example response from Grok AI scores this an 8/10.

Question four response from Grok asking "Are the complaints reasonable? Score this from zero (completely unreasonable) to ten (completely reasonable) and provide a brief explanation why." to which Grok scored this a 7/10.

Answer to question six "Given what's written here, should one NOT buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti ? Score this from zero (definitely do not buy) to ten (definitely buy)." with a score of 4/10 and an explanation.
Answer to question six: Given what's written here, should one NOT buy the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti ? Score this from zero (definitely do not buy) to ten (definitely buy).
A final note with red underline indicating that the Reddit thread is speculative and hence no definitive conclusion can be reached and also noting that reviews may be available post-launch.

Step Four: Ask follow-up questions, if necessary.

If we need further information about the webpage we’re analyzing, then we can ask follow-up questions.

We do not currently know the overall sentiment on this webpage  however with 235 comments it could take awhile to understand if this is overall positive or negative so we’ll request this information here.

The follow-up question "What is the overall sentiment on this webpage?" is asked and we can see Grok's response, which indicates that the sentiment is strongly negative, including a breakdown of the reasons why.
Step Four: Follow-up question and answer regarding the overall sentiment.

We can continue to ask additional questions until we’re satisfied that we have extracted the information we need from the target article.

That’s it for this section — the tutorial conclusion follows.

Conclusion

Leveraging Grok’s conversational AI capabilities provides a powerful, efficient way to distill key insights from a URL, as shown in this tutorial.

By providing a prompt along with a URL, users can leverage Grok’s advanced processing capabilities to generate concise web summaries, making it a valuable tool for quickly understanding online material without the need to sift through lengthy articles and/or discussion threads.

While this prompt was executed using Grok AI, it should produce a similar result when executed in ChatGPT — this is an exercise we leave to the reader.
